The first two classes will be spent exploring different painting techniques to achieve a variety of colour, value and texture on large sheets of paper. Students will then use their painted sheets to compose an original collage. This hands on class will be very messy, so please dress students accordingly!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Intermediate Classes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All classes will be held on Monday afternoons from 2:05-3:00 pm. Students will study the life and work of a featured artist. They will be introduced to a variety of painting techniques and follow steps to create a painting in acrylic on canvas. All materials are provided but a set of acrylic paint for home assignments is required. Instructor is not qualified to issue credits, however, all courses cover the required topics for credit and a full report of grades will be issued to assist parents in receiving credit for the course.<\/p>\n<p>Grade Nine<br \/>\nDates: First Monday of each month<br \/>\nTime: 10-12:00<br \/>\n$200<br \/>\nThis course provides a foundation for further study in the visual arts. Students will experiment with different media as they explore the art produced by a variety of cultures. They will learn to analyze various forms of art and place them in an historical context. There is a strong emphasis on the elements and principles of design, colour theory and art history. Students meet with the instructor once a month. The majority of the studio component of the course is done independently between classes. Students (and parents) should be prepared to incorporate art homework into their daily schedule for the duration of the class.<\/p>\n<p>Grade Ten<br \/>\nDates: Alternating Wednesdays, February-June<br \/>\nTime: 10-12:00<br \/>\n$200<br \/>\nThis course will allow students to develop skills acquired in the grade nine course. Classes will balance art history, new media and a refined application of the principles and elements of design. Students will develop drawing and painting skills and learn to analyze works of art and the relationship between form and content. Students meet with the instructor once per month. The majority of the studio component of the course is done independently between classes. Students (and parents) should be prepared to incorporate art homework into their daily schedule for the duration of the class. <\/p>\n<p>Grade Eleven<br \/>\nDates: Second and fourth Monday of each month, September-January<br \/>\nTime: 10-12:00<br \/>\n$200<br \/>\nThis course will allow students to develop skills acquired in grade nine and ten visual art. Students will take initiative in developing a theme of their choice and exploring it through various media. The course will include an extensive study of design, focusing on composition and the principles of design. In addition students will learn to analyze works of art and discuss how meaning is achieved through the form of the art. Art history will form a major component of the course.<\/p>\n<p>Grade Twelve<br \/>\nDates: Second and fourth Monday of each month, February-June<br \/>\nTime: 10-12:00<br \/>\n$200<br \/>\nThis course develops the personal style of the student through studio projects and independent study. It includes an in-depth analysis of eight periods of art history including work from Antiquity, Gothic sculpture, Renaissance, Baroque, Neoclassicism, Romanticism and Realism. Students must complete a report on each period which includes a drawing and an analysis of how that particular work fits into its period. A final test will require students to identify pieces of art studied as well as to place a piece of art into its historical context. Studio projects include life drawing, portraiture and still life.
